Official: Smoked meat sales exceed 6,000 tons during Easter

Martina Mostisch, the executive secretary of meat industry association Hússzövetség, saw sales of smoked meat products exceed 6,000 tons in Hungary, the equivalent of approximately HUF 7 bln, during the Easter season last year, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.

According to the executive secretary, approximately 2 million households consume an average of 3.1 kg of smoked meat during the Easter holidays. Companies reach 25-30% of their annual smoked ham sales during this period, she said, adding that black market sales account for approximately 20-30% of the total in this segment.
