Number of job seekers continues to fall in July
There were 257,400 registered job seekers in Hungary at the end of July, down 6.3% from the same month a year earlier, according to data from the National Employment Service (NFSZ) cited by state news agency MTI on Tuesday.
The NFSZ said 26.0% of the total, or around 67,000 people, had been seeking work for more than one year. The ratio was down 13.4 percentage points from a year earlier.
About 10.1% of registered job seekers, or 25,900 people, were unemployed school-leavers.
Some 141,000 job seekers, or 54.8% of the total, were eligible for some kind of unemployment or social support during the month.
A report earlier in August indicated that there has been an increasing recent trend in Hungary on the labor market for private companies to hire so-called fostered workers (non-skilled workers employed on public works schemes), due to continuing chronic labor shortages.
