November sees 3.7% increase in guest nights
According to a report by KSH, November saw a 3.7% increase in guest nights, compared to the same period of the previous year, with the number of nights spent by both international and domestic tourists on the rise.
The number of nights spent by international tourists grew by 1.6% to 990,000 in November 2018, compared to the same period of the previous year. The nights spent by domestic tourists grew by 5.9% to 993,000 as Hungarians used a four-day weekend for the All Saints’ Day holiday for recreation.
Compared to the same period in 2017, the number of international tourist arrivals rose by 4.8% to nearly 420,000. The number of spent nights rose in boarding houses, community hostels and camping sites, while it stagnated in hotels and decreased in bungalows. More than two-thirds of nights were spent by foreign tourists in the Budapest-Central Danube Region, 2.5% more than in the same month in 2017.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew by 8.2% and exceeded 460,000. The amount of nights spent rose in all types of accommodations except community hostels. In hotels, the rate of expansion was 4.5%, realizing approximately eight-tenths of domestic tourism nights. With the exception of Lake Tisza Region, domestic guests spent more nights in each region. An expansion rate of 20% was observe in Central Transdanubia.
Total gross revenues grew by 7.1% to HUF 37 billion at current prices in commercial accommodation establishments. In January-November 2018, commercial accommodation establishments saw 4% growth in tourism nights and a 9.5% rise in gross revenues compared to the same period of 2017.
At hotels, the average occupancy rate stood at 58.2%, up one percentage point from the same month a year earlier. Total revenue per available room (TREVPAR) at hotels climbed 6.1% to HUF 20,586, ksh.hu said.
