NISZ issues tender for GSM-Railway system

Hungary's state-owned National Infocommunications Service Company (NISZ) has issued a tender for installation of the Global System for Mobile Communications-Railway (GSM-R) along a 935-kilometer stretch of railway, NISZ said on Wednesday.

The NISZ said it expects to sign a contract with the winner of the tender in the second half of 2013. Introduction of the GSM-R is a requirement for joining the European Union-supported unified European Rail Traffic Management System aimed at enhancing the cross-border interoperability of train-control and -command systems.
The NISZ, which was known as Kopint-Datorg until September 2011, is a wholly state-owned company operating under the organizational authority of the National Development Ministry.
