Nielsen: Sales of household chemicals, cosmetics up in 2014

Retail sales of household chemicals and cosmetics in Hungary rose 2% in volume terms last year after a five-year decline, market research company Nielsen reported yesterday. The sales rose 6% in nominal terms to HUF 333 bln in 2014. Sales growth picked up gradually, to 3% year-on-year in volume terms in Q4.

Shops in excess of 400 sqm had an 86% share of all sales, similar to 2013. The share of shops larger than 2,500 sqm, however, fell 2 percentage, points while the share of supermarkets with a retail space between 400-2,500 sqm and the share of drug stores rose 1-1%, Nielsen added. Retail sales of household chemicals and cosmetics increased in 2014 in every region, with the northwestern counties registering an over-average 9% growth.
