National network of intermodal container terminals planned

The government plans to set up a national network of intermodal container terminals (OIKH) and would establish a 100% state-owned company to design, execute and operate OIKH projects, shows a government resolution published in the official gazette Magyar Közlöny on Monday.
State news agency MTI reports that the elements of the network will include the developments of the Zalaegerszeg, Békéscsaba and Záhony freight transfer sites, as well as a site at Paks, the location of Hungaryʼs sole nuclear power plant.
The first such terminal is to be established in Zalaegerszeg-Zalaszentiván (western Hungary). The government has rechanneled HUF 300 million from the 2017 budget of Hungarian National Asset Management Inc. (MNV) to fund preparations for that project.
The Minister of National Development is due to submit to the government a document on the legislative amendments necessary to set up the network with no delay. He will have to submit a proposal on the expenses related to the operations of the company managing the network and the Zalaegerszeg project by July 1, 2018.
