Migration Commissioner: EC considers migrant support funds

EU

The European Commission is considering providing further financial support to countries dealing with mass migration, including Hungaryʼs request of €8 mln, according to Commissioner for Migration, Dimitris Avramopoulous.

Avramopoulous said that following Italy and Greece, Hungary is the most vulnerable to the current flow of mass migration, estimating that 35,000 refugees arrived in the country in the last month alone.

The Commissioner also said that a high-level conference on how to manage the waves of refugees will be held in Budapest at the end of September or early October. He also encouraged EU member states to "take alternative measures" rather than build fences, as has been Hungaryʼs approach to the issue thus far.
