Hungary’s National Media and Telecommunications Authority (NMHH) is planning to phase out the so-called “blue” telephone numbers, which are premium-rate numbers, with a cost that would be shared between the caller and the service provider, Hungarian news agency MTI reported this morning.

The media authority said it made the decision based on several complaints by users. According to NMHH, service providers had been passing the full cost of the calls onto customers, MTI reported. The matter was not resolved after several rounds of talks with service providers, NMHH said.

By decree, the numbers will be phased out by the end of 2017, MTI said.
