Mayor: Hévíz sees less Russian visitors, more Hungarian, Slovak, Czech
Hungary’s Hévíz, which is the hometown of one of the world’s largest thermal lakes, saw a 10-15% decline in the number of Russian tourists in recent months, although this has been compensated by the growing number of Hungarian, Czech and Slovakian tourists, local mayor Gábor Papp said this past weekend, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.
The mayor hopes the number of guest nights spent by visitors in Hévíz will exceed last year’s one million by the end of this year.
The Hévíz Spa has also been affected by the drop in the number of Russian guests but the number of Hungarian and German-speaking tourists has increased slightly while there are also more French and U.K. visitors, according to the mayor.
This year Hévíz is scheduled to host the Meeting of the Spas of Central Europe (SPACE) on October 1-3.
