M4 probe to wind up at end of April
The Hungarian governmentʼs review of the construction of a section of the M4 motorway, to investigate the European Commissionʼs suspicion of cartel activity, is expected to be completed at the end of April, deputy state secretary for communications of development policy Nándor Csepreghy said today.
Cabinet Chief János Lázár ordered the internal review on March 26 and construction on the project was halted.
Csepreghy said earlier that the government does not agree with the ECʼs suspicion and "final judgment will not take place" unless suspicion is substantiated. The government wants a full-scale investigation of the matter, as public funds are involved, he added.
The European Anti-Fraud Office, Olaf, is investigating a total of 50 Hungarian investment projects with a total value of nearly HUF 500 bln, Csepreghy said in response to a journalist.
