KSH: Trade surplus up €617 million in 2013

The Central Statistics Office (KSH) today released preliminary figures on the final data on Hungary’s import and export trade in 2013, showing increases on both ends as well as in the trade balance surplus.

The KSH statistics say that exports and imports increased year-on-year by 9.5% and 6.9%, respectively, in December; the surplus on the trade balance was up €150 million on the December ’12 amount.

In December 2013, exports amounted to €5.9 billion (HUF 1.778 trillion), while imports totalled €5.6 billion (HUF 1.690 trillion), with the surplus €290 million (HUF 87 billion) in the twelfth month of the year. The proportion of overall exports to European Union member states was 74%, while 73% of imports came from EU-28 countries.

For the year, KSH figured the total value of Hungary’s exports at €81.9 billion (HUF 24.303 trillion) and imports at €74.6 billion (HUF 22.135 trillion); these grew by 2.5% and 1.8%, respectively, y.o.y. The surplus on the trade balance for 2013 was €617 million greater y.o.y.
