KSH: Newly built dwellings, new permits up in H1

The number of new dwellings built in the first half of the year was 3,420, up 11% on the same period last year, while the number of dwelling construction permits issued and declarations concerning construction of new residential buildings was 13,236, more than twice as many as in the first half of 2015, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said today.
In a year-on-year comparison, in the first half the number of dwellings built decreased by 21% in villages, while it increased by 36% in the towns of county rank, by 13% in other towns and by 9% in Budapest, according to the KSH.
Although the proportion of dwellings built by individuals fell from 57% to 46%, that of dwellings built by enterprises increased from 43% to 54%, KSH noted. The average floor-area of homes put to use decreased by 7 sqm to 92 sqm.
According to KSH, based on new construction permits, 5,434 residential buildings are planned, a 79% increase, while the 3,072 permits issued for non-residential buildings increased by 52% compared to the previous yearʼs low base.
