KSH: Hungary’s retail sales grow 5.5%

The volume of retail sales in Hungary was up 5.5% in March as compared to the same month a year earlier, according to raw data, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported today in a second estimate.

Adjusted for calendar effects and compared with March a year ago, KSH said, the volume of growth in retail sales was up by 4.2% (chiefly due to sales in the Easter season) and the volume of sales rose by 1.9% in specialized and non-specialized food shops. Sales volume rose by 7.6% in non-food retail shops and by 5.0% in automotive fuel retailing, KSH data show.

In the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period last year, calendar-adjusted data show the volume of retail sales increased by 4.3%; sales in food, drinks and tobacco rose by 1.8%; non-food retail rose by 7.2%; and automotive fuel retailing rose by 6.1%, KSH said.
