KSH: Hungary’s cereal production suffers due to bad weather in 2015

Weather

The amount of cereal produced in 2015 dropped 15.7% as compared to the previous year, and was 2.6 million tons less in an area 4.7% smaller, or 132,000 hectares less, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported today in a first reading of data.

According to KSH, the drop was chiefly due to a 27% fall in the production of corn, approximately 2.8 million less than a year before, caused by excess heat at the beginning of the summer and a lack of precipitation over the season.

The quantity of wheat remained at the previous year’s level despite a decrease in the sown area.
