The number of guest nights in Hungary was up 1.3% in December, to 1,507,000, as compared to the same month a year earlier, Hungary’s Central Statistical Office (KSH) said today.
Although the number of nights spent by domestic tourists was up 6.4%, the number of international tourism nights dropped by 3.6%, KSH said. The number of international tourist arrivals decreased by 0.8% and the number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 9.3%, KSH said. The number of international tourism nights fell in four of the nine tourism regions, it added.
Gross revenues of accommodation establishments, calculated at current prices, were up 4.9% in the month, according to data by KSH. Room occupancy in hotels rose 0.1 of a percentage point to 44.4%, it added.
Taking into consideration all of 2015, accommodation establishments saw a total of 25,765,000 tourism nights, a growth of 5.4%, as compared to the previous year.
Commenting on the data, National Economy Minister Mihály Varga said the tourism industry had a record year in 2015 with guest numbers climbing significantly and reaching 10.35 million by the end of December, Hungarian news agency MTI reported. Varga said growth in the tourism sector could be persistent in the coming years, MTI added.
