Job applicants up 17% in Q1
In the first quarter of 2019, demand for jobs in the IT, administrative, and hospitality sectors, as well as skilled labor positions, grew significantly compared to the same period a year ago, with the total number of job applicants up 17%, according to online job search specialist Profession.hu.
The number of resumés in the database of Profession.hu grew by 30% year-on-year.
In the IT sector, some 26% more people applied for jobs, with project management (+108%), testing (+63%), system integration (+26%), and IT advisor-analyst (+20%) registering the strongest demand. Some 10% more people applied for programming positions, which may mean that practice-oriented junior programming courses of a few months duration are finally bearing fruit, noted Profession.hu.
The popularity of administrative jobs increased by 31%, with that of manual jobs up 13%. However, the hospitality sector was even more popular, with 44% more applicants than a year before.
Interest in manual jobs was up by 43%, with the largest increase in applications registered for positions as sales clerks (+58%), drivers (+99%), and warehouse personnel (+24%).
Profession.hu says these numbers are likely a result of the general labor shortage, with job seekers applying for these positions in search of better wages due to the ongoing "wage wars."
Looking at the general average, some 63% of those who apply for a job are unemployed at the time of their application. In the IT sector, however, the rate stands at a mere 43%, meaning that IT employees often start thinking about switching jobs while working.
The number of companies posting ads looking for workers also grew across the entire country by 3%. Apart from Budapest and Pest County, the most active counties were Fejér, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, and Hajdú-Bihar. The latter featured some 11% more job postings than a year ago.
