Industrial producer prices up 0.7% in January

Citing domestic and export price changes, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) today reported a 0.7% increase month-on-month in industrial producer prices for January. KSH noted that the price increase in manufacturing branches was compensated by a like decrease in the energy sector. 

Domestic industrial sales prices as a whole did not change in January 2014. By sector, prices grew at the highest rates in the manufacture of transport equipment (up 2.9% m.o.m.), chemicals and chemical products (1.8%) and electrical equipment (1.6%). In utility supply, prices decreased by 1.8%.

Year-on-year, a decline of 1.2% was observed in domestic sales and a price rise of 0.5% in manufacturing branches as a whole.

Export sales prices, measured in HUF, rose 1.2% m.o.m. in industry and 1.3% in manufacturing branches in January 2014. Prices rose considerably in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (2.6%), transport equipment (2.3%) and computer, electronic and optical products (2.1%).

Prices were reduced in the manufacture of machinery and equipment (1.5%), coke and refined petroleum products (0.6%) and basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (0.2%). Price increases of between 0.1% and 1.9% were measured in the remaining areas of manufacturing. Prices fell by 1.5% in utility supply.

Year-on-year, export prices were up by 0.6% in industry and by 0.8% in manufacturing branches.

In domestic sales, among the end-user groups of branches, 1.4% lower prices were measured in energy producer branches, and price increases of 1.4% in intermediate, of 1.9% in capital and of 1.1% in consumer goods producer branches in January 2014 compared to the previous month.

Compared to January 2013, prices fell by 2.2% in energy and intermediate producer branches as a whole, and rose by 2.3% in capital and by 1.2% in consumer goods producer branches.
