Hungary's MOL Group is interested in negotiations on RWE's DEA unit

Deals

Hungarian oil and gas company MOL said it would consider negotations regarding RWE's oil and gas unit DEA in the event that the deal to sell it to Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman should fall through, Reuters reported from Frankfurt today.

"It is well known that we have always viewed DEA as a highly attractive asset, and that we are always open and approachable if someone from the industry wants to explore options," a MOL spokesman told Reuters today.

In March, RWE made a deal to sell DEA for 5.1 bln to a group of investors, led by Fridman. But Britain could block the transaction, Financial Times reported today. The UK government has not yet issued a letter of support – or opposition – to the transaction. Such a letter is required when a British oil and gas production licence is transferred to a new owner.

Reuters noted that MOL Group and BASF's oil and gas subsidiary Wintershall were reported to be among the investors submitting binding bids for DEA at the time.
