Hungary sets aside HUF 103 bln for prison expansion

The Hungarian government allocated HUF 103 billion to create more space in the countryʼs overcrowded prisons, according to a resolution published in the latest issue of official gazette Magyar Közlöny, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

The resolution reportedly notes that the country must deal with prison overcrowding to comply with its commitments under the European Convention of Human Rights, MTI added. 

The resolution allocates HUF 1.2 bln in 2016, HUF 30.4 bln in 2017, HUF 51.3 bln in 2018 and HUF 20 bln in 2019 to add more prison space, according to MTI.
