Hungary guest nights climb 6.1% in November
The number of guest nights at commercial accommodations in Hungary rose 6.1% to 1,334,000 in November from the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Thursday. The increase followed a 9.1% rise in the previous month.
The number of guest nights in January-November rose 4.6% to 20,359,000.
The number of guest nights spent by foreign visitors rose 15.7% to 703,000 in November and was up 8.2% at 10,651,000 in January-November. The number spent by domestic guests was down 3.0% at 631,000 in November and edged up 0.9% in January-November to 9,708,000. The number of guest nights at hotels rose 7.6% to 1,159,000 in November and was up 7.8% to 15,496,000 in January-November.
Germans spent 95,408 guest nights at commercial accommodations in Hungary in November, more than any other nationality. Visitors from Austria followed, with 71,984 guest nights. Tourists from the United Kingdom spent 52,157 guest nights and Italians spent 47,794 guest nights.
Commercial accommodations generated gross revenue of HUF 19.5 billion in November, up 1.0% from the same month a year earlier. Gross revenue in January-November was HUF 251.1 billion, up 6.7% from a year earlier. Revenue from room fees came to HUF 10.2 billion in November and HUF 142.3 billion in January-November and catering revenue reached HUF 4.8 billion in November and HUF 55.4 billion in eleven months.
The gross average room rate at hotels was HUF 13,958 in November. Gross revenue per available room was HUF 6,231. Gross revenue of hotels rose 1.5% to HUF 17.9 billion. It rose 8.0% yr/yr in the first eleven months to HUF 224.7 billion. The average occupancy rate at hotels was 44.6% in November and averaged 48.6% in January-November.
