The Hungarian ice cream market is expected to grow by 20%, generating output of HUF 35 billion, according to the latest gauge compiled by market research firm Nielsen, business news site vg.hu reported.

The study said that bucket versions of ice cream are still the most popular, accounting for 53% of total sales. Sticks and bars hold 34% of the market, and cones 10%. The study did not include gelato and ice cream powders.

Customers purchase three out of four ice creams in malls bigger than 400 square meters. A little more than 60% of purchased products are one of the given shop’s own brands.

Chocolate and vanilla-flavored ice creams are the most popular, but strawberry, nut and punch are also among the favorite flavors. The survey said that demand is also growing for sugar and lactose-free ice cream, as well as vegan products.
