Growing number of Hungarians study abroad
It is estimated that more than 10,000 Hungarian students are currently studying at colleges and universities abroad, and one in five high school students are considering postsecondary studies outside of Hungary. Some universities even send headhunters to enlist students, online daily penzcentrum.hu reported yesterday.
Statistics were revealed at the Engame Academy press conference, which assists Hungarians with continued education. The countries they listed as the top picks for Hungarian students include: United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, United States, Holland and Denmark.
The Academy’s lead mentor, Kinga Könczey, said the reason students choose to study abroad is due to the smaller class sizes, a hands-on approach and a focus on problem solving, penzcentrum.hu added.
In some cases, tuition fees can be ten times that of domestic fees, or even more for U.S. ivy league universities where only the most exceptional students or athletes are eligible for scholarships. A number of students also choose to study in Scotland, where tuition fees are waived for students from within the EU.
