To meet the year-end financing needs in the sector, the Hungarian government has decided to raise this year’s healthcare appropriations by HUF 54.1 billion, Hungarian news agency MTI reported, based on a government resolution published in the latest edition of official gazette Magyar Közlöny.

After the raise, overall spending on healthcare and prevention is targeted at HUF 982.4 bln, under the amended 2016 Central Budget Act, MTI reported. Already some 74.7%, or HUF 734.1 bln, has been spent in the first nine months, MTI added.

The government also decided to raise spending on specialized care by HUF 8.5 bln, spending on medicine price subsidies by HUF 41.8 bln, and spending on medical devices by HUF 3.8 bln, according to the resolution.

Spending on the other two items exceeded, in contrast, the pro rata budget appropriations, with budget spending on drug price subsidies at HUF 252.3 bln, or 82.7% of the HUF 305.1 bln annual target, and nine-month budget subsidies of medical devices at HUF 46 bln, or 83.4% of the annual plan, MTI reported.
