Sales of durable consumer electronics and appliances increased by 11.1% in the first quarter of 2015, as compared to the same period of 2014, market researcher GfK Hungária reported on Tuesday. Turnover growth was largely driven by sales of telecommunications products and large household appliances, GfK said.

Sales of large household products were up 23.1% to HUF 18.6 bln in the first quarter, while sales of telecommunications products reached 22.1% or HUF 39.3 bln, with smartphone sales accounting for 95% of that total. Small household appliance sales increased 4.8% to HUF 7 bln.

Sales of entertainment electronics increased 2.2% to HUF 16 bln. Sales of IT equipment was up 1.3% to HUF 27.3 bln in the first quarter, due in large part to the sale of tablets. Sales of photo goods fell 6% to HUF 1.8 bln. Sales of office equipment and supplies was up 3% at HUF 7 bln.
