Seed exports below average in 2020
Hungary's seed exports reached 81,357 tonnes last year, under the 100,000 tonne average in previous years, the Hungarian Seed Association told state news wire MTI.
Chairman Géza Takács said some countries that have imported seeds until now are trying to establish domestic capacities which will require Hungary to look for new export markets.
Hungary is the fifth-biggest exporter of seeds in the world. Seed exports generate revenue of HUF 180 billion-200 bln a year.
Last year, Hungary produced 373,640 tonnes of seeds, including 141,000 tonnes of wheat seeds, 106,000 of maize seeds, 38,000 tonnes of barley seeds, 12,000 tonnes of triticale seeds, and 9,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds.
