Q3 freight sector performance still below pre-COVID levels

The performance of the freight transport sector in Hungary edged up 0.3% year-on-year from a low base to 13.1 bln freight tonne-kilometers in the third quarter of 2021 but was still 10.1% behind its level in the same period of 2019, data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) show.

Performance increased 14% in domestic freight transport and declined 6.1% in international transport.

Freight volume rose 6.6% to 80 million tonnes. Domestic freight volume was 56 million tonnes and foreign freight volume came to 23 million tonnes.

Freight delivered by road accounted for 73% of the total, rail cargo for 16% and pipeline volume for 9%. Waterway freight made up 3%.
