Czechia's 2022 Budget Ends With Huge Deficit

Debt

The Czech Republic's state budget ended 2022 with a deficit of CZK 360.4 billion (EUR 14.97 billion), the third worst result in the country's history, Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura said on Tuesday.

The government originally planned a deficit of CZK 280 billion, but amended the state budget to CZK 375 billion in the fall due to unexpected expenditures, including pension hikes, an energy-saving tariff for households, and increased social benefits.

Last year, Czechia saw a deficit of CZK 419.7 billion, while this year the state plans to run a deficit of CZK 295 billion.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.
