Tax on gaming machines unjustifiably low, says economy minister
The gambling tax paid by operators of gaming machines is unjustifiably low in many cases, business daily Napi Gazdaság quoted National Economy Minister György Matolcsy as saying in its Tuesday issue.
The tax – at HUF 100,000 per venue – has been unchanged since September 1, 2005, Matolcsy said.
The National Economy Ministry is considering the introduction of an electronic online system for monitoring revenue and winnings of gaming machines, the paper said. Such a system could allow venues with more revenue from gaming machines to pay more tax.
Proposed amendments to legislation on gaming machines and online gambling are to be submitted to Parliament in the autumn.
