Stock of prenatal baby support loans close to HUF 1.285 tln
Hungarian lenders' stock of prenatal baby support loans came close to HUF 1.285 tln at the end of May, up HUF 46 bln from a month earlier, data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) on Thursday show, according to state news wire MTI.
The government introduced the unsecured, interest-free, general-purpose prenatal baby support loans up to HUF 10 million for families having children in July 2019. The loans are part of a package of family support measures designed to address the problem of depopulation and are available only until the end of 2022.
Households borrowed net HUF 144 bln in May, lifting retail lending stock to HUF 8.581 tln, fresh MNB data show.
Households made net deposits of HUF 72 bln during the month, raising retail deposit stock to HUF 11.674 tln.
