New lease contract value rose 18% to HUF 859 billion in Hungary last year, Hungarian Leasing Association board member Katalin Nyikos said on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Adjusted for the impact of a single big property lease, contract value increased 12%, Nyikos said. The number of contracts fell 14% as asset prices rose, she added.

SMEs accounted for 64% of leasing company clients, while big companies made up 19% and retail clients 8%.

The value of state-subsidized leases came to HUF 203 billion.

László Kőszegi, secretary general of the association, said leasing companies expect lease volume to stagnate or grow "slightly" this year, while contract numbers remain flat.
