Hungarians pay more with bank cards
Hungarians withdrew less cash but made more purchases and paid for more bills with their bank cards in the fourth quarter, state news wire MTI reports, citing data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB).
Bank card purchases rose 14% year-on-year to HUF 2.012 trillion in Q4, while cash payments for bills made with bank cards climbed 19% to HUF 434 bln.
Cash withdrawals from ATMs fell 5% to HUF 2.147 tln during the period.
The number of brick-and-mortar businesses with POS terminals increased 10% to 123,091 in the twelve months to the end of 2020. The number of webshops accepting bank card payment rose 12% to 14,468. The total number of POS terminals climbed 16% to 199,890.
