Govt MPs propose bioethanol tax rise, wine excise stamp

MPs of governing Fidesz have submitted amendments that would nearly double the excise tax on bioethanol and reintroduce the excise tax stamp on wine.

The tax package submitted by National Economy Minister György Matolcsy on Tuesday would leave the excise tax on bioethanol unchanged at HUF 40,000 per 1,000 liters. The amendment to the bill, submitted by Fidesz MP László Koszorús, would raise the tax to HUF 70,000 per 1,000 liters.

MP Sándor Font has proposed reintroducing the excise tax stamp on wine, which proves the payment of the tax, arguing that sales of quality wine have declined considerably since it was scrapped.
