Gov’t not to back away from internet tax

Fidesz MP Szilárd Németh, who is responsible for utility fee cuts, said today on Hungarian commercial television channel ATV that the government is not abandoning the idea of introducing an internet tax, neither would it lower the amount to be paid.
In the interview, Németh reinterated that the tax is to be paid by internet service providers and not end users, and ISPs are not eligible to transfer the costs. Németh added that the money generated by the tax would not be spent on military purposes, but would serve as a down payment for an EU grant of HUF 100 bln, which the government would use for developing broadband internet in Hungary.
