State-owned student loan provider Diákhitel on Monday said the interest rate on its free-purpose loans will rise to 4.99% from 1.99%, state news wire MTI reports.

Hungarians enrolled at institutions of higher education may take out up to HUF 150,000 a month of the free-purpose credit.

Diákhitel said borrowers already availing of a credit repayment moratorium can continue to participate in the scheme.

Diákhitel's loans for tuition are interest-free.
