Ten banks will raise the fees of their retail accounts due to last year's inflation by May 1, which may increase the annual burden of consumers by several thousand forints, the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) announced in a statement released on its website yesterday.

It was noted that there might be significant fee differences between different accounts, even within the same bank. Therefore, the central bank advised customers to review last year's account costs, which is helped by the fee statements sent by financial institutions by the end of January this year.

The central bank emphasized that clients can use the MNB's bank account selection calculator to compare all the available account products.

The MNB drew attention to the fact that the level of the increase may exceed last year's 14.5% inflation.
