Environmental investments decline in Hungary
Hungarian companies spent HUF 127 bln on environmental investments in 2013, down from HUF 138 bln in 2012 and HUF 129 bln in 2011, a report by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) revealed.
Integrated investments – built into production processes – accounted for 11% of the total in 2013. The rest were stand-alone investments made to prevent, reduce or eliminate environmental pollution or damage.
Investments made by waste management companies reached HUF 198 bln in 2013. About 58% of the total was spent in the sewage segment. One-quarter was in waste management and 8% was for protecting aquifers. Hungarian companies paid a total of HUF 126 bln to contractors for environmental services in 2013. Two-thirds of that amount was for waste management and 29% was for sewage services.
