Stadler presents first Flirt, builds new unit in Hungary
Swiss Stadler presented the first of 30 Flirt multiple units ordered by state-owned railway company MÁV Zrt at a ceremony in Székesfehérvár (north-west Hungary) yesterday.
At the same time, Stadler laid the cornerstone for a €9.6 million maintenance facility in nearby Pusztaszabolcs. The company will complete delivery of the Flirt units by March 2008, delivering two per month. Stadler won the contract to deliver 30 of its Flirt models, with an option to deliver a further 30, in a much disputed tender in the summer of 2005.
The maintenance unit in Pusztaszabolcs is expected to be completed by March 2007. It will employ 30-60 people. Stadler deputy-CEO Peter Jenelten noted that Stadler would build a production plant in Hungary if MÁV calls the option for the remaining units.
