Schaffner shifting some work to Hungary

Electronic components manufacturer Schaffner Holding is relocating its European volume output of electromagnetic compatible and power-quality products to Kecskemét, Hungary.
The Luterbach, Switzerland-based company is going through a reorganisation aimed at boosting profitability. As part of this Schaffner is switching its main manufacturing from Büren, Germany, to a new plant in Kecskemét.
The Hungarian facility, which opened in mid-May and is run by subsidiary Schaffner EMV Hungary, will “substantially expand” capacity in Kecskemét while boosting efficiency, the firm said. Around 30 jobs at Buren will be transferred to Hungary, and the headcount at Luterbach will be cut by 33-115. The cuts will be achieved partly through the nonrenewal of temporary employment contracts as well as by natural attrition. But there will be about 20 formal layoffs.
Schaffner has other production sites in Lamphun, Thailand, Finland and Shanghai. (PRW.com)
