Schaffner moves last of production from Western Europe to Hungary
Switzerland’s Schaffner Group, Europe’s biggest maker of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) products, is moving the last of its production from Western Europe to Hungary, business daily Világgazdaság reported on Tuesday.
Schaffner will start production in May of EMC products as well as transformers at a plant it is building in Kecskemét (central Hungary), Schaffner EMV Hungary managing director László Mócza told Világgazdaság. Last year Schaffner bought German peer Jacke and moved production from the unit’s base in Germany to Hungary. Only Schaffner’s R+D activities have remained in Switzerland and Germany, though production development is expected to be moved to Hungary soon, Mócza said. Schaffner’s staff in Hungary will rise 50-100 to 200-250, when the plant in Kecskemét is completed. The plant is being financed in a leasing construction with UniCredit Bank, Mócza said, though he declined to reveal the cost of the investment.
Schaffner picked Hungary to move its production because the economic and political conditions were good for development, Mócza said. He added that Hungarian wages are the lowest in the region. Schaffner had revenue of Ft 2.26 billion (about $14 million) in 2006, figures from the Company Court show. (MTI-Econews)
