Saint-Gobain completes Hungarian drywall plant project
France's Saint-Gobain Group is ready to start operating a €36-million drywall plant at its Hungarian unit, Rigips Hungária, business daily Világgazdaság reported.
The drywall plant, Hungary's first, will have capacity for 13 million square meters of product a year, Rigips Hungária managing director Tamás Földi told Világgazdaság. It plans to sell about 8.5 million square meters in Hungary (last year about 22 square meters of drywall was sold in Hungary, all of it imported) and the rest in neighboring countries.
As there is no natural gypsum - the base material for drywall - in Hungary, Rigips Hungária will use synthetic gypsum created as a by-product of the process of removing sulfur dioxide from emissions at the nearby Mátrai power plant, Földi said. The synthetic gypsum is finer and of higher quality than natural gypsum, he added.
Rigips Hungária had revenue of Ft 5.74 billion in 2006, the latest available data show. (MTI – Econews)
