Production to restart at troubled meat company Kapuvári Hús
Production will start again on Monday at meat company Kapuvári Hús, based in Kapuvár, days after the government declared it of "special significance", regional daily Kisalföld said on Friday.
"Slaughtering and processing will restart on Monday at the plant, and I can say the company's big trading partners have not parted from us," owner Péter Zsobrák told the paper. He said the management of the company had together found "the way to allow work to continue in Kapuvár", without revealing any further details.
Government spokesman András Giró-Szász said on public television late Thursday that the government had declared Kapuvári Hús of "special significance" to prevent assets from being removed from the company, putting jobs in danger. Companies declared of "special significance" are subject to different liquidation procedures than conventional companies.
Kisalföld said on Wednesday that production at the plant, which employs about 400 people, had come to a standstill.
Tibor Pászli, deputy head of the plant's union, told MTI on Friday that the government's declaration regarding the company had given it a safety net, but employees were still concerned because of uncertainty surrounding everyday operations. He added that workers would go ahead with a "protect our jobs" demonstration in the afternoon on Friday.
