Magyar Cukor completes Ft 100 mln experimental biogas power plant

Recycling

Sugar company Magyar Cukor Zrt has completed a Ft 100 million experimental biogas-fueled power plant at its refinery in Kaposvár, southwest Hungary, the company announced on Tuesday.

Byproducts from the refinery will be used to fuel the plant. If the plant proves successful, Magyar Cukor could build another, larger plant using a daily 800-1,000 tons of refinery byproducts, the plant's engineering director László Hajós said. The plant could provide half of the refinery's energy by the next sugar beet campaign, saving about Ft 500 million in gas costs, he said. The experimental plant uses 400 kilograms of refinery byproducts a day.
