Lego to move production of Creator line to Hungary
Lego, the Danish maker of interlocking blocks for children, is moving production of its Lego Creator line of toys to Hungary, business daily Világgazdaság reported on Monday.
Some of the production of the line has already been moved from Lego's plant in Denmark to the Hungarian unit of contract manufacturer Flextronics Kft, and the rest is expected to be transferred by the spring of 2007, Lego Hungária Kft managing director Zoltán Kiss told the paper. The transfer is expected to create 150 jobs, he added.
At the end of 2005, Lego said it would move production of its Duplo blocks for toddlers to Flextronics' plant in Sárvár, northwest Hungary, creating 600 new jobs. From the start of 2007, Lego Hungária will be responsible for Lego's operations in Slovenia, as well as in Hungary and Croatia, Kiss said.
Lego's sales in Hungary grew 12% in 2006, giving it a leading position on the toy market.
