Hungary R&D spending falls to HUF 427 bln in 2016

Spending on research and development in Hungary reached HUF 427.2 bln last year, falling 8.8% from the previous year, a summary of data by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) shows.

It was the first time in many years that R&D spending has dropped by annual comparison. 

Businesses accounted for 56% of the spending, the state for 26% and foreign sources for 17%.

About 54,600 people worked in R&D in Hungary last year, including 38,900 researchers and 9,100 assistants.
