Hungary’s National Development and Economy Minister Gordon Bajnai announced that the government had classified construction of a projected €800 million Daimler-Benz assembly plant as a priority national investment, thus making it eligible for a streamlined permit-acquisition process.

Daimler-Benz announced in June that it would build its Eastern European plant in Hungary. Daimler-Benz is expected to employ 2,500 workers at the plant, which will be the biggest greenfield investment ever made in Hungary.

Daimler-Benz said in June that the company plans to begin production of next-generation Mercedes A- and B-Class compact cars at the plant in 2012. (MTI – Econews)
