ETV plans Ft 30 bln straw-fueled power plant
Energy technology company ETV-Erőterv Zrt plans to build a Ft 30 billion straw-fueled power plant, the country's first, in Szerencs, northeast Hungary, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported on Monday.
Most of the money to build the 50 MW plant will come from EU funding, ETV chief engineer Antal Kiss told the paper. The plant will require an annual 250,000 tons of straw, just a fraction of the 44.5 million tons grown in Hungary each year.
Although fully automated, the plant is expected to employ 100-150 people, Kiss said.
Szerencs's chief engineer Béla Csanádi said the plant is still in the planning stages, and it will take at least a year to obtain the necessary building permits.
ETV earlier aimed to build a similar plant in the nearby city of Miskolc, but the local council there refused permission because of environmental and transport considerations.
