Elcoteq cuts shifts at base in Hungary

Finnish electronics maker Elcoteq has cut shifts at its plant in Hungary, MTI learnt.

Bela Novodarszky, who heads the union at the company, confirmed the number of shifts at the plant had been reduced from Monday, but dismissed reports that the entire plant had been shut down.

Elcoteq said at the end of August that its Finnish units filed for bankruptcy. The parent company, domiciled in Luxembourg, was earlier accepted in a controlled management procedure.

Elcoteq employed 7,000 at its base in Pecs (SW Hungary) before the crisis. Now headcount stands at 2,800.
