E.ON to launch power plant construction in Hungary
Germany’s E.ON Kraft-Werke GmbH is to launch the ground works at the site of its planned combined-cycle power plant in Gönyü in September.
The preparatory works are to be completed next spring, with the actual construction phase to launch in May, said Zoltán Katona, managing director of a Hungarian subsidiary, E.ON Erőművek Kft to the daily Napi Gazdaság. The first, 400 megawatt block of the facility will be capable of generating 2 billion kilowatts of electricity annually, following its startup in 2010. While the estimated value of the project amounts to Ft 70 billion (€278 million, $380 million), already, E.ON has plans of constructing another block of similar size to cope with the future growth of Hungarian power demands, Katona added. The second stint will cost approximately as much as the first, he added. (NG 4)
