A consortium of Hungarian companies and researchers has developed technology to raise Asian Seabass on geothermal-powered fish farms with an investment of HUF 465m, István Szűcs, a docent at the University of Debrecen, where some of the research for the project was undertaken, told MTI.

Fish companies Jászkiséri Halas and Unio Seafood have teamed up with the Fisheries and Irrigation Research Institute, the Fisheries Faculty of the Szent István University and the Agriculture and Farm Sciences Centre of the University of Debrecen for the project.

One of the main goals of the project is to diversify Hungary’s fisheries, which rely heavily on carp, Mr Szűcs said.
