Budapest signs contract to take over sewage treatment plant

The city of Budapest will take over the Csepel sewage treatment plant from the consortium that built it under a contract signed on Friday.

Under the contract, signed by mayor Istvan Tarlos and the Csepel 2005 FH Consortium, the city will take over the plant from December 1.

The agreement is part of a process in which the capital city wants to take over the management of its strategically important companies, Mr Tarlos said.

The Budapest City Operating Centre (BVK Holding) will take over the plant for HUF 50m plus a dividend laid down in the contract.

A consortium of France’s Degremont, OTV France, Hidepito and Colas-Alterra Epitoipari won a tender to build the plant and operate it for four years in 2005.

Degremont CEO Ralph Barthelmess confirmed that the consortium would continue to be a partner with the capital, participating in further projects.

BVK chairman Istvan Fodor called the Csepel 2005 FH Consortium an important partner.
